From Timber To Tourism
We began as a lumber company in the early 1980's importing from the Amazon rainforest, but as lovers of nature we evolved to become operators of Amazon tours. Our years in the forest convinced us that rainforest conservation was one of the most important goals of our time. So in 1989 we began to offer Amazon tours, some of the very first "ecotours" offered anywhere.
Ecotourism Becomes a Category of Travel
At first most people thought that ecotourism would just be a tiny rugged niche in the travel industry. But to quote Victor Hugo: "An invasion of armies can be resisted but not an idea whose time has come". Now "ecotourism" is very popular form of travel and the term has become a household word. While our first ecotours were rugged studies of inconvenience and discomfort, nowadays our travelers voyage deep into remote wilderness in considerable comfort and can still experience the unspoiled beauty of this magnificent rainforest.
Today our Amazon tours take place on the Motor Yacht Tucano, a comfortable, air-conditioned, and elegant vessel specifically designed for wildlife observation. The comfort of the vessel permits just about anyone to enjoy the wonders of the Amazon rainforest. We have stayed true to our goal of offering authentic experiences to our guests by through our small group size, deeply skilled guides, exploring remote and unspoiled places, a comfortable vessel, and a commitment to sustainability. And our staff in the Amazon have prospered. For many of our crew members, their children are the first in their families to be able to go to school.
What we know now is ecotourism proves the success of a compelling idea: that small scale nature tours can help support local communities while at the same time helping protect the environment. Though not all trips promoted as "ecotours" meet this standard, mostly the goals of ecotourism are being met. Travelers worldwide are helping local communities gain income while preserving the environment.
We see ourselves as fortunate that over the years our staff and guests have experienced some of the most astonishing creatures and environments in tropical America.
Come and share with us this thrilling and important adventure in the greatest wilderness on earth.
